Mardi Gras season is finally here and Parish Proud, Republic Waste, and Lafayette Consolidated Government are in the mix. This season we have launched our Mardi Gras Mambo Program. This program is focused on keeping Mardi Gras clean, green, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
Parish Proud has presented to the Lafayette Mardi Gras Association, and the Krewe of Rio float captains. We handed out educational materials and informed all of the members about the issues that litter presents. Some of these issues include health hazards, environmental effects, and economic concerns.
In addition to presentations, Parish Proud has supplied all 120+ floats and 2,000 riders with trash bags for the parades. This is to help eliminate the amount of trash that is thrown off the floats and into the streets.
For parade goers, Republic Waste has gifted 700 trashcans to be placed along the parade routes this year. Parish Proud is appreciative of Republic’s environmental concerns and commitment to a clean and safe Mardi Gras season.
“We are very excited and grateful for this partnership between Parish Proud, Republic Waste, and Lafayette Consolidated Government. Litter can affect everything from health issues to drainage and we hope that because of this partnership, we can mitigate some of those effects this Mardi Gras season” says Brianne Hendricks, Parish Proud Executive Director.
